As a student myself, I won’t lie to you: Study. Life. Is. Hard. But if it was really that hard then half of the existing educated population (i.e your teacher, doctor) wouldn’t exist because they wouldn’t have made through their academic years. Yet clearly, this isn’t the case. So there is hope guys! If they can do it so can us 🙂
The key to success for me really boils down to finding balance and advocating for health & fitness really helps with this. Why? Because being healthy is way more than what you put on your plate or how many KGs of Deadlifts you can perform. It’s about sleeping well, loving your body, taking care of your skin and mentality etc. So to help you out, I have listed down my top 5 healthy hacks that I life by to slowly find my life’s health-study equilibrium. Please share any of your own in the comment section below! Hope my hacks will do you good =)
Get involved in a fitness group that caters to YOUR interest! If you are passionate about running, join a local Adidas/Nike running group on Facebook. Or some running club. Zumba is your thing? Then register for a class near you. There is ALWAYS a way. Stop giving excuses (i.e. you have no time because of exams blah blah blah) and worry that you will suck at it or you won’t be able to make friends. Trust me, it will be OK because these people in your fitness group/club share the same interest as you! If you’re lucky, you could even foster a genuine friendship like I did with some of my POP Pilates friends =)
Follow inspiring Snapchat/Instagram accounts! When I first started out, I felt a lot intimidated by these accounts and always ended up feeling bad about my physique. But after I changed my mentality, I looked at them as a motivation and inspiration! Never ever compare your physique to all these fitness gurus. They have worked really hard and way earlier than we all have to get to where they are today. Here are my three current favourites:
- Whitney Simmons: This. Girl. Is. Everything! I like her the most because she doesn’t bullsh*t and she knows what she is talking about. All my gym regime is also based on her Youtube videos/recommendations. Give her a follow on Snapchat & Instagram @whitneyysimmons for daily workout tips & tricks (and her cute puppy!)
- Zanna Van Dijk: This woman, whom I also just recently met, is a great role model of a balanced healthy living lifestyle. She’s open to indulging into ‘unhealthier’ options because she believes in moderation and she’s 100% real. @zannavandijk is where you can find a lot of workout videos and funny anecdotes of her life as a full time blogger!
- Kayla Itsines: If you don’t know who she is then gurlllll you better be living under a rock (ok kidding)! But then again, her #BBG community has taken the world by storm. Recently, Kayla and her #BBGgirls broke 5 world records! If that alone isn’t enough to inspire you then check out her positive Instagram feed @ Kayla_Itsines or join her #BBG movement on her website! It. Is. Crazy!
Make a Fitness Account on Instagram! Gone are the days where people would pin you down for posting about your sweaty session at the gym because this habit has evolved into a norm. Everyone does it. People post about their belongings, travels or food so nothing should stop you from celebrating your workout session or a healthy meal you made by sharing it to your friends/family. You have treated your body well so don’t shy away from this opportunity! In fact, you might even inspire your followers to kickstart a healthy living too! That’s why my blog, Snapchat and Instagram exist and sometimes, I find that the more I post, the more encouragement I get so the happier I am doing what I do everyday. Try It!
Meal Prep! How you look is 80% of what you eat and 20% of your workout. So don’t be fooled into thinking that hitting the gym for 2 hours then eating anything you like will turn your body into its healthier form! It won’t! Be sure to be mindful of what you put into your plate. If you can’t seem to find time to cook, try meal prepping for a change! Not only does it saves money, but also help you stay on your fitness track. I wrote a thorough beginner’s guide on meal prepping here.
Drink water the first thing in the morning. If you have lived with me, you would know that my mineral water bottle is the first thing I grab upon seeing daylight. Why? Because it helps me…(vulgar word alert) poop AND my mouth will feel moisturised instantly. Do justice to your body the has been dry for like 8 hours hehe! 😀
I wish you all the best in your studies and wellbeing. I love you! Spread love, be happy.
Stay Quirky, Fie<3
